You know you’re in for a treat when it’s Zoee release day. I’ve been massively enjoying the singles this year and you can read my reviews at the bottom of this piece. Today’s song is Time Of Our Lives, and we begin with a Latin lesson from Zoee herself:
“There is an old Latin phrase: Memento Mori, remember, you must die. Far from being a message of despair, it has inspired generations to live more fully, love more deeply, and never take another sunrise for granted. Inspired by other ideas such as Carpe Diem (seize the day), and Tempus Fugit (time flies), Time of Our Lives celebrates the ordinary moments that become extraordinary simply because we choose to embrace the now and share them with the people we love.”
Her note is a timely reminder that Zoee is a deep thinker. I remember last year being impressed that Zoee was the only musician who was offering mindfulness guides as downloads on her site. It supported the release of her song Wendy, inspired by Wendy in Peter Pan. It’s no surprise that Zoee has a philosophical streak and she has put those old Latin scholars to a very modern use in this of-the-moment pop song.
All that glitter was real, too, just to clear that up. This is an anthem about making every minute count, and it’s bright and catchy with punchy drums. Zoee is an upbeat companion who helps us navigate the ups and downs of life. All of us are here for such a short time, so turn the volume up, dust yourself down and let’s go.
“Life often has a way of convincing us to wait,” says Zoee. “Until we are successful, less busy, or the timing feels perfect. I wanted to write a song about the illusion of the perfect moment, and the realization that this is the moment we’ve been waiting for. Time of Our Lives is an invitation to put the phone down, roll the windows down, call the people you love, chase the dream you have been postponing, and remember that today’s ordinary moments often become tomorrow’s treasured memories.”
There’s always been ‘bad news on the TV’ and your bills will always be overdue so let all that wait, kick back, and grab some fun while you can. In Zoee’s hands there is no melancholy or nostalgia, only anticipated enjoyment. It’s a perfect song if you’re somewhere in the world that is tipping towards winter to keep the chills away, but even if you’re down under it works as an upbeat spring song too. Get streaming this one today. You won’t regret it!
